My name is Jenny and I am a qualified person- centred counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I provide weekly therapy both short and long term to adults facing a range of emotional issues and life challenges.
A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life
I aim to provide you with therapeutic support for whatever difficulties you are currently facing. My training and experience mean that I will listen in a way which I hope allows you to talk freely and without fear of judgment. What we discuss is confidential and so differs from talking to friends and family, equally valuable but different from counselling.
The experience of being listened to in this way can really help you to gain fresh perspective and to unravel the thoughts and emotions you are experiencing. It can allow you to make sense of your experiences and the impact they have had on you. I believe counselling can be a powerful way of gaining insight, greater self-awareness and self-acceptance which can lead to lasting change in your life.
Seeking counselling may feel daunting but I hope to provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere so you can feel safe and relaxed.
About Me
Alongside my private practice, I work in a low- cost, community counselling service and I see a wide range of people from different walks of life. I am currently working with clients experiencing complex grief. I have also worked as a counsellor with an addiction service, where I received specialised training in how to work more effectively with this client group.
I am fully insured and work within the ethical and professional framework of the BACP.
I have a wide experience of working in different roles where listening was at the heart of my practice. My professional background includes working in life history research and before that I worked abroad as a field officer with UNHCR. I believe my years in a listening role have given me very good tools for tuning in well with each unique individual I meet.
Additional Training in:
I am a person-centred counsellor. This means I will work with you as an individual, getting to know you and to understand you, and I hope enabling you to get to know yourself better. My approach is to create a warm and accepting environment that allows you to share whatever you are experiencing. I do not set myself up as an expert, but rather my role is to enable you to find the resources you have within you to move forward in your life.
My aim is that we can work collaboratively together through the difficulties you are experiencing, difficulties which may feel overwhelming and too heavy for you to resolve alone. I will listen closely to you and give you the opportunity to fully explore your thoughts and feelings. I will be alongside you in whatever you are facing. I hope that our relationship will begin to enable some clarity, perspective and a way forward which feels right for you.
The work I do is led by you and what you choose to bring to the sessions. It may be that you want to focus on things that happened in the past or on current difficulties or on worries and concerns about the future. The main thing is I offer you space and time to talk at your own pace and I try to adapt my way of working to suit each client that walks through my door and your unique needs. Please feel free to drop me a line or get in touch if you have any questions or need any more information about how I work.
